About The Position

A nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of clinical and clerical duties while adhering to Inspira Health Network’s Mission, Vision, and Values. These duties include but are not limited to providing clinical and supportive services to patients, providers, and staff, greeting patients, creating or verifying, and updating patient insurance information. Specimen collection, injections/vaccines, entering appropriate information into state database, preparing for exams (including complete vital signs), patient history collection, performing screening procedures per provider guidelines, relaying instructions to patients, and assisting with other specific practice procedures. The role requires adherence to IMG workflow and guidelines, including participation in daily practice huddles. The Medical Assistant may be assigned to cover other IMG offices based on staffing needs. Essential qualities include the ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures, maintaining a pleasant and professional image, demonstrating compassion and empathy, and acquiring the ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Medical assistant diploma and certification from an accredited vocational institution or a community college.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification or Registry.
  • Active AHA Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a Medical Practice.
  • Phlebotomy and EKG experience.
  • Experience with drug administration, specifically with vaccine and medication injections.
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and supportive services to patients, providers, and staff.
  • Greet patients.
  • Create or verify, and update patient insurance information.
  • Perform specimen collection.
  • Administer injections/vaccines.
  • Enter appropriate information into state database.
  • Prepare for exams, including complete vital signs.
  • Collect patient history.
  • Perform screening procedures per provider guidelines.
  • Relay instructions to patients.
  • Assist with other specific practice procedures.
  • Follow IMG workflow and guidelines, including participation in daily practice huddles.
  • Cover other IMG offices based on staffing needs.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow in Electronic Medical Record.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Collect patient history.
  • Perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Assist physicians/nurses with various procedures, charting.
  • Relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
  • Prepare charts.
  • Send/receive patient medical records.
  • Obtain lab/radiology reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Obtain prior authorizations or pre-certifications.
  • Complete and submit tasks according to office protocol.
  • Manage and update charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
  • Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols.
  • Clean/sterilize exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Maintain universal precautions as per guidelines.
  • Clean sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keep appropriate records.
  • Order, sort, store supplies.
  • Restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Respect/secure patient rights and private health information (PHI).
  • Comply with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency codes.
  • Share concerns relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors.
  • Perform medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving.
  • Check vital signs or mensuration.
  • Perform physical examination preparations and assistance.
  • Apply clinical pharmacology; administer drugs through various routes including injections.
  • Perform prescription verifications with physician's orders.
  • Assist with minor surgery including surgical tray set-up pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings, and suture removal.
  • Perform biohazard waste disposal and monitoring.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities.
  • Instruct patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, education, and home care.
  • Perform laboratory procedures including OSHA guidelines; quality control methods; CLIA-waived testing; capillary punctures and venipunctures.
  • Handle specimens such as urine, throat, vaginal, stool, and sputum.
  • Perform electrocardiography, emergency triage, and first aid.
  • Perform a variety of specialty practice specific procedures.
  • Perform additional practice specific duties as assigned.
