The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures. The MA prepares the examination room, escorts patients, maintains efficient patient flow, and ensures proper preparation for patient visits. They communicate and provide care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient, answer phones, schedule appointments, stock examination rooms, reconcile encounters, and document vital signs and allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The MA also facilitates transitions of care and demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules.
