About The Position

This opportunity is for a PRN Medical Assistant in the Outpatient Department at Shriners Children's. The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for patient care within the outpatient clinic setting. The MA is expected to demonstrate responsible behaviors, communicate effectively, and function as a member of the healthcare team. Key competencies include obtaining heights, weights, vital signs, and gathering pertinent patient history and medication information. The MA also manages examination/procedure room supplies, helps organize efficient patient flow, and ensures a safe clinic environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Certificate in Medical Assistant Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Medical Assistant Program
  • Certification as a CMA (AAMA)
  • 2 years experience as a medical assistant
  • 1 year of pediatric care experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians, nursing and other health care professional with procedures, the intake and depart processes.
  • Accurately documents findings during the intake process in the EMR.
  • Provides effective communication with patients and families that will enable safe and effective patient care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Communicates with family effectively regarding referrals to other sources.
  • Transfers and assists patients to examining rooms and other departments as necessary.
  • Informs patients of any delays in care.
  • Escorts patients to other services when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
