About The Position

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager and guided by Ambulatory Services policies and procedures, the Primary Care Medical Assistant (MA) supports a collaborative care team within Women’s Health Primary Care. This role focuses on patient rooming, health record maintenance, care coordination, and serving as a communication bridge between patients and providers. The MA supports preventive care, chronic disease management, and patient advocacy for individuals with complex or ongoing healthcare needs.

Requirements

  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent training and experience
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical practice
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and workflows
  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Experience using Epic (APeX) electronic health records
  • Knowledge of immunization schedules and preventive care guidelines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in internal medicine, geriatrics, or family medicine
  • Fluency in Spanish or Chinese
  • Phlebotomy certification (CPT)
  • Experience with population health tools or disease registries

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine clinical duties including taking vital signs, height/weight measurements, pain screening, and documenting chief complaints
  • Support interpreter services for in-person, video, or phone appointments
  • Assist with medication reconciliation and refill coordination
  • Obtain specimens and perform point-of-care testing in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Prepare and pend orders for labs, screenings, refills, and preventive services under provider direction
  • Review provider schedules and patient charts to support visit readiness and future care planning
  • Track preventive care needs and ensure appropriate follow-up
  • Coordinate care for patients with chronic or complex medical conditions
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, pharmacies, insurance companies, and community partners
  • Assist with patient messaging and written communications
  • Maintain exam rooms, labs, and clinical supply inventory
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage electronic health record tasks, including MyChart and InBasket messages
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement and customer service initiatives
