The didgwalic Wellness Center is seeking a patient-focused Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist to join our integrated care clinic that combines primary care, behavioral health, and opiate treatment all in one place. Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical practices in primary care, mental health, and addiction medicine.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, specimen handling, and laboratory protocols.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and its effects on individuals, families, and communities is required.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for specimen handling and patient confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-culture environment, understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the didgwalic Wellness Center.
  • Understanding the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal in wellness and recovery.
  • Adheres to all confidentiality regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Must be a Licensed Medical Assistant (MA) in good standing with the State of Washington.
  • Phlebotomy certification required.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant with strong phlebotomy experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in substance use disorder treatment and/or primary care strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies and updates patient information by interviewing patients and recording medical history in the EHR.
  • Takes and documents vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
  • Prepares patients for examination and assists providers during exams and treatments.
  • Performs delegated clinical duties under the direction of a provider or nurse.
  • Administers injections, treatments, and routine laboratory tests.
  • Performs screening tests, reports results, and dresses wounds or incisions.
  • Verifies patient identity and explains specimen collection procedures.
  • Performs venipuncture and capillary (finger stick) blood collection.
  • Selects appropriate equipment and ensures proper technique for specimen integrity.
  • Observes urine collection (same gender) per substance use testing protocols.
  • Ensures optimal quality and quantity of specimens collected.
  • Labels, processes, and prepares specimens for transport and testing.
  • Maintains strict chain of custody for all specimens and related documentation.
  • Operates EKG and other diagnostic equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests and reports results.
  • Maintains, cleans, and calibrates laboratory and diagnostic equipment.
  • Prepares specimens for screening, analysis, and transport.
  • Maintains accurate records of all laboratory tests and submissions in the EHR.
  • Accurately documents all patient interactions, test results, and specimen submissions in the EHR.
  • Completes and files all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and cleans examination rooms.
  • Maintains inventory of medical and laboratory supplies and places orders as needed.
  • Obtains medication prior authorizations as required.
  • Cross-trains and assists other staff as needed.
  • Maintains high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adheres to all didgwalic Wellness Center personnel policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Nursing Manager.
