About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program and/or Medical Assistant Certification from a Board-approved Medical Assistant Organization required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • Medical Assistant certification and/or diploma required.
  • CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician License required upon hire.
  • 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant, in a medical office, ambulatory care facility, or medical group practice required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient history and document in EMR appropriately.
  • Acquire all results (films, tests) prior to patient visit.
  • Maintain timely patient flow and room availability.
  • Assist patients with the completion of forms, as needed.
  • Perform clinical responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting lab specimens, performing EKGs, administering medications and injections (as directed by clinician), and recording/documenting in patient record.
  • Participate in the patient check-out process, facilitating follow-up tests and referrals, and may assist in obtaining prior authorizations for timely scheduling of follow-up appointments.
  • Maintain referral system and ensure accurate and timely follow-through with all referrals generated.
  • Prepare and clean exam/procedure rooms and set up appropriate supplies.
  • Ensure equipment, forms, and educational materials are available and ready for use during visits/procedures.
  • Maintain and monitor all equipment used for patient care and testing, reporting discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Collect and prepare specimens and transport to lab, following hospital policy for specimen labeling and logging.
  • Perform unit office procedures including general administrative duties (scanning, filing, faxing, phones, courier duties, etc.).
  • Act as a transporter for stable, non-acute patients for testing or treatment.
  • May act as a Safety Representative for the department, attending monthly safety meetings and communicating safety updates.
