About the position

The position involves providing clerical and clinical assistance in a Family Health Centers Pediatrics office. Responsibilities include preparing patients from triaging through vital signs and medical history, assisting providers, and completing procedures as directed. The role also includes establishing specialty appointments, calling patients and pharmacies for prescriptions, and adhering to the Corporate Compliance program by reporting any improper or unethical conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical services in the front office including patient registration, cashier duties, and appointment setting.
  • Obtain vital signs and ascertain primary problems to prepare patients for provider visits.
  • Chart on patient medical records and maintain documentation and record keeping.
  • Track and register patient data for statistical purposes as required.
  • Assess and respond to patients' needs and educate them regarding health care.
  • Assist in obtaining lab specimens and perform special patient treatments as directed, including nebulizers, injections, EKGs, and venipunctures.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures, demonstrating knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control.
  • Prepare, administer, and record medications as directed by the provider.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff members using appropriate medical terminology.
  • Equip examination rooms, clean rooms, and sterilize instruments according to proper procedures in accordance with universal precautions.
  • Obtain information from hospitals or labs as ordered by the physician.
  • Dispose of infected material properly using red bag containers.
  • Set up exam rooms for the following day's operation, inventorying and restocking supplies as needed.
  • Complete WIC forms as required.
  • Utilize electronic health record systems to enter, retrieve, and document patient information, clinical tasks, communications, and physician orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent training and experience.
  • Documentation of completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Medical Assistant in ambulatory care.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Prior computer operation experience, particularly with medical systems preferred.
