About The Position

The Medical Assistant for Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at Ochsner Health System is responsible for providing individualized medical care to assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. This role involves assisting in the delivery of healthcare services, maintaining positive relationships with patients and their families, and ensuring efficient patient flow during visits. The position requires effective communication and documentation skills, as well as the ability to adapt to the needs of diverse patient populations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a formal medical assistant training program preferred.
  • Experience working with and maintaining confidential information in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Clinical knowledge and proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized medical care to assigned patients in person, electronically, and via telephone under supervision.
  • Assist in the delivery of healthcare services to patients of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients and their families.
  • Ensure efficient flow of patients throughout their visit, providing support to them and the attending physician.
  • Communicate via phone to ensure patient needs are met timely and accurately.
  • Access company data systems to document pertinent medical information.
  • Prepare the patient and provider for visits and ensure all questions are answered before the patient leaves.
  • Complete appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
  • Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials through personal professional development.
  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and communication styles.
