About The Position

The Medical Assistant/Patient Support Associate position in Cardiology involves providing skilled front office and clinical support to the physician practice. The role serves as a liaison between the physician and patient to coordinate care, ensuring exceptional customer service while maintaining patient safety, privacy, and loyalty. The position requires collaboration with the care team to deliver direct patient care when necessary. Responsibilities include documenting accurately in the EMR, obtaining and verifying medical histories, collecting vital signs, and preparing patients for physician visits. The role also involves administering medications, performing EKGs and other tests, assisting in procedures, and ensuring cleanliness in clinical areas. The Medical Assistant will also handle incoming calls, manage patient communications, and assist with prescription refills and prior authorizations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience required.
  • BLS/CPR Certification for the Healthcare Provider required.
  • Minimum 6 months experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled front office and clinical support to the physician practice.
  • Serve as a liaison between the physician and patient to coordinate care.
  • Document accurately in the EMR and adhere to patient confidentiality standards.
  • Obtain/verify medical history, medications, allergies, and reason for visit.
  • Accurate collection and documentation of vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for physician visits.
  • Utilize standardized rooming patient protocol in EPIC.
  • Explain NCH MyChart and guide patients through activation.
  • Administer medications per physician orders.
  • Perform EKGs, spirometry testing, and other office tests.
  • Assist in procedures including room setup and cleanup.
  • Ensure supplies are maintained for each practitioner.
  • Assist with obtaining prior authorizations and pre-certifications.
  • Abstract clinical information into Epic as directed.
  • Ensure cleanliness of clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Perform clinic inventory tracking and audit expiration dates.
  • Obtain medical records from non-NCH facilities.
  • Create and open orders per protocol or as directed.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and handle appropriately.
  • Take accurate and complete messages according to protocols.
  • Provide timely responses to NCH MyChart messages and appointment requests.
  • Complete prescription refills as per practice protocol.
  • Communicate test results and other information to patients.
