About The Position

The position involves assisting physicians and advanced practice nurses (APN/PA) with patient care, patient flow, procedures, and clerical duties. Responsibilities include greeting patients and families, scheduling appointments, collecting payments, and managing patient information. The role requires preparing examination rooms, obtaining vital signs, documenting in electronic health records (EHR), and ensuring compliance with regulatory policies. The position also involves physical demands such as lifting, mobility, and dexterity, as well as exposure to environmental risks like chemicals and bloodborne pathogens.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required; Bachelor's/Associate Degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Must obtain BLS within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use.
  • Knowledge of medical office and terminology preferred.
  • Experience with standard office equipment and technology preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • MA/PSR work experience preferred.
  • Experience in a medical office setting.
  • Ability to deal with difficult personalities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Physician, APN/PA with patient care, patient flow, procedures, and clerical duties.
  • Greet patients/family and schedule patient appointments and tests efficiently.
  • Collect payments from patients and provide account balance and receipts.
  • Post payments to the correct accounts and prepare bank deposit bags.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and address caller's needs.
  • Provide referrals and/or consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and enter diagnostic tests and procedures into the order management system.
  • Obtain, verify, and update patient information including demographics and insurance.
  • Prepare the examination room and escort patients into the room.
  • Collect lab specimens and accurately label them.
  • Obtain vital signs and document appropriately in EHR.
  • Work cooperatively with PCR and clinical staff for timely pre-authorizations.
  • Maintain an organized sample closet and discard outdated medication.
  • Monitor supply inventory and complete requisitions for supplies.
