About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Highland General Hospital is a per diem role focused on providing essential clinical and clerical support in an outpatient clinic setting. Under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed physician, the Medical Assistant will assist with patient care, perform technical tasks, and ensure a high standard of service for vulnerable populations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a certified/accredited medical assistant school.
  • Active Medical Assistant certification (AAMA, AMCA, CCMA, NCCT/MMCI, or AMT) to be acquired within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clinicians in following up on patient needs, including inbox management and providing patient prescriptions.
  • Collaborate with patients and healthcare providers to deliver coordinated care.
  • Collect and preserve specimens for testing and transport them to the laboratory.
  • Utilize population health methodologies to improve patient outcomes.
  • Administer injections and perform skin tests following specific training.
  • Greet and escort patients to examination rooms, preparing them for procedures.
  • Interview patients to collect medical history and measure vital signs.
  • Maintain patient examination areas and sterilize equipment as needed.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement/Quality Control activities.
  • Perform basic clinical skills and non-invasive testing as required.
  • Handle clerical functions such as answering phones and registering patients.
  • Perform phlebotomy and respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide patient-centered care and promote excellent customer service.
  • Record information in patients' medical records.
  • Support the plan of care and assist patients with referrals and authorizations.
  • Transport patients to ancillary services and assist those with limited mobility.
  • Provide health coaching and assist patients in goal setting.
