Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.
  • Preferred 2-5 years' experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CCR) required and can obtain during orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with patients and employees in a respectful manner consistent with the mission and values of Sun Life.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing rapport with the patient and others while being aware of age specific needs protocols.
  • Exhibit knowledge of growth, development, and age appropriate communication.
  • Ability to assess, provide and interpret age specific data.
  • Ability to involve family or significant other in decision-making related to plan of care.
  • Promote teamwork within the facility to improve patient access and patient outcomes.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new hires acting as preceptor.
  • Review and follow up on patient self management goals.
  • Perform patient education activities as directed by provider.
  • Review preventative care needs of the patient and alert the provider.
  • Ensure pre-visit information is reviewed and completed.
  • Provide patient preparation and assist the provider as requested.
  • Instruct patients as directed by provider.
  • Implement provider orders promptly and with accuracy.
  • Maintain documentation of patient care services by completing patient and department records.
  • Administer injections to include immunizations and fill out appropriate paperwork.
  • Educate patient on medications and directions for use.
  • Call in prescription refills as directed by the provider.
  • Notify patients when prescription orders are ready.
  • Complete prior authorizations for medications.
  • Answer telephone calls and take messages for the provider.
  • Contact patients to report lab test results.
  • Facilitate any patient reports and deliver them to the provider.
  • Provide an effective communication link between patient and medical staff.
  • Process referrals if required and set up appointments for diagnostic procedures.
  • Protect patients and employees by complying with infection control policies.
  • Clean and prepare rooms between procedures, and restock supplies.
  • Complete patient care requirements by performing tests and completing other tasks as assigned.
  • Perform sterilization of instruments and surgical packs.
  • Perform specimen collection and laboratory CLIA Waived testing.
  • Assure quality of care by maintaining clinic standards of care.
  • Ensure operation of medical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain nursing supplies inventory by anticipating needed supplies.
  • Report communicable disease to County Health Department as needed.
  • Adhere to expectations of required/mandatory in-services and certifications.
  • Verify cash in cash box at the beginning of shift and reconciles cash count at the end of the day.
  • Prepare and submit drawer count, reconciliation form, and all balancing reports.
  • Greet and check in patients in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
  • Verify patient information and complete necessary forms.
  • Answer questions regarding patient account status.
  • Determine correct amount of co-payment and collect it before services are rendered.
  • Inform new patients of SLFHC's current payment policy.
  • Check patient out, and, if necessary, schedule follow-up appointment.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and messages in a timely and professional manner.
  • Create packets for new patients as needed.
  • Assure compliance with all HIPAA requirements.
  • Provide coverage for outlying sites as needed.
  • Communicate and assist patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Verify and complete orders.
  • Obtain specimen(s) from patient of all ages per lab requisition.
  • Instruct patients on the collection of urine samples, tolerance tests, and stool samples.
  • Perform quality control appropriate for the testing performed.
  • Participate in laboratory continuing education programs.
