About The Position

The Medical Assistant in Orthopedics plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by preparing patients for examinations, assisting healthcare providers, and performing various clinical tasks. This position is essential for ensuring smooth clinic operations and delivering high-quality care to patients in the orthopedic department.

Requirements

  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic medical records systems.
  • Strong customer service skills to enhance patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and rooms patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and documenting health information.
  • Monitors and completes Clinical Integration/Quality Improvement measures, notifying clinicians of opportunities.
  • Performs laboratory procedures such as strep tests and specimen collection using aseptic techniques.
  • Assists the Physician/Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with various procedures including pelvic exams and allergy testing.
  • Administers routine medications under Physician/APC orders or approved protocols.
  • Follows through with necessary procedure requests, care algorithms, and referrals to other services.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team to ensure smooth clinic flow and patient care.
  • Performs basic and advanced clinical support tasks based on specialty and competencies, such as sutures removal and EKGs.
