About The Position

At Franciscan, Medical Assistants are crucial for supporting various clinical duties across multiple ambulatory clinics. This role involves assisting providers and staff in coordinating patient care, scheduling appointments, executing physician orders for lab testing, entering information into the electronic medical record system, and acting as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED Program Medical Assisting or 5 years of medical assistant experience (for Medical Assistant)
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association (for Medical Assistant and LPN)
  • Associate's Degree Nursing / Patient Care (for LPN)
  • Certificate Nursing / Patient Care (for LPN)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - State Licensing Board (for LPN)

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Medical Assistant through American Allied Health (AAMA) (AMT), (NAHP), (NCCT),(NHA) or must obtain within 6 months of hire (for Medical Assistant)
  • 2 years Nursing/Patient Care (for LPN)

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers and staff in coordinating patient care
  • Schedule appointments
  • Execute physician orders for lab testing
  • Enter information in electronic medical record system
  • Function as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers
  • Provide a more personal approach to direct patient care in a variety of outpatient settings
  • Room patients
  • Take vitals
  • Obtain a comprehensive medical history
  • Document care of patient via electronic medical record
  • Administer vaccines, injections, and medications
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Perform point of care testing
  • Perform medication reconciliation under the supervision of RN/Provider
  • Gather requirements from internal and external customers and provide information via phone, electronic messaging and in person
  • Initiate and follow through on prior authorizations, referrals, and process sample medications, prescriptions, and refills as directed
