About The Position

The position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant (MA) in the Neurology department at Advocate Health. The role is full-time, requiring 32 hours per week, with a schedule from Tuesday to Friday. The candidate will be responsible for preparing and rooming patients for exams, monitoring clinical integration and quality improvement measures, performing laboratory procedures, assisting physicians with various procedures, administering medications, and ensuring smooth clinic flow. The position requires effective communication with patients and healthcare team members, as well as the ability to perform both basic and advanced clinical support tasks. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of patient care appropriate to various age groups and possess the necessary skills to assess and interpret patient data. The role also includes physical demands such as lifting and moving patients, and the candidate will be exposed to various hazards in the clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Active LPN license issued by the state of practice or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers issued by the AHA, to be obtained within 45 days unless exempted.
  • Advanced training beyond high school in Practical Nursing or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or 2 years of verifiable experience as a Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and rooms patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and health information.
  • Monitors and completes Clinical Integration/Quality Improvement measures.
  • Performs laboratory procedures using aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines.
  • Assists the Physician/Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with procedures such as pelvic exams and EMG.
  • Administers routine medications under Physician/APC orders or approved protocols.
  • Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests and referrals.
  • Communicates with the healthcare team to ensure smooth clinic flow.
  • Performs basic and advanced clinical support tasks based on competencies.
