About The Position

Responsible for assisting providers with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organization tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patient so they may fully utilize and benefit from the physician office services. Conveys a positive image of the office and physician practice.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program or have related experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting for primary care.
  • Phlebotomy skills preferred or ability to complete
  • Clinical setting skills in addition to office medical procedures and managed care.
  • Must have highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrate high ethical standards.
  • Able to maintain self-control and function under pressure during emergency situations.
  • Current CPR Certification
  • The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after offer of hire has been made.
  • The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.

Responsibilities

  • Checks schedule and organized patient flow.
  • Accompanies patient to exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patient, as needed, with walking, transfers, dressing, collection specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Collects and records patient history.
  • Preform injections, EKG’s breathing treatments, and waived laboratory testing per provider and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assists physicians/mid-level provider with various procedures.
  • Relays instructions and test result to patients/families.
  • Answers clinical calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies.
  • Preparing charts in EHR if necessary.
  • Sends/receives patient medical records.
  • Completes forms/requisition as needed.
  • Answers the phone.
  • Telephones patient’s prescription to local pharmacies.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments and/or diagnostic testing as well as makes referrals to other physicians.
  • Preforms prior-authorizations for procedures and medications if necessary.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Manages charts to ensure medical information is complete.
  • Sets up instrument and equipment according to department protocol
  • Participates in ordering, restocking and maintain inventory.
  • May coordinate routine office activities and administrative function in support of unit activities.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods as well as following FQHC accreditation requirements.
  • Participates in health staff meetings and other quality improvement meetings as needed.
  • Preforms miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
