About The Position

The Medical Assistant in Occupational Medicine at Memorial Hermann is responsible for assisting healthcare providers in delivering patient care within clinical settings. This role involves a combination of clinical and administrative duties, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and policies while providing high-quality care to patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or eligibility for certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required within 12 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Six months of medical assistant experience or completion of a medical assistant externship required.
  • Working knowledge of ICD9/10 and CPT coding and insurance procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) setting.
  • Ability to float to other clinic practices as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas.
  • Perform patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes.
  • Conduct patient access tasks, including taking messages and assisting providers with return phone calls.
  • Review charts prior to patient appointments to ensure all lab work and diagnostic procedures are completed.
  • Record patient vital signs and reason for visit using Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Prepare patients for examination and notify providers of patient readiness.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures, including surgical and diagnostic studies.
  • Conduct hearing, vision, breathing, and EKG testing; record results in patient charts.
  • Administer medications as directed and perform venipuncture and specimen collection.
  • Recognize emergency situations and intervene appropriately, notifying the necessary personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to all policies, procedures, and standards of care.
