About the position

The Medical Assistant - Neurology position at WellSpan Medical Group in Chambersburg, PA, is a full-time role that provides safe, therapeutic, and efficient care and services to patients. The Medical Assistant will assist in direct patient care, perform treatments, administer medications (if qualified and appropriately supervised), and instruct patients and their families in appropriate care as directed by their provider. This role is integral to the patient-centered practice, aiding in the development of office workflows that support patient-centered care. Specific clinical duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document reason for visit and patient vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect specimens as directed by provider and ensure proper handling and storage.
  • Ensure patient care areas are stocked with unexpired medical supplies and equipment is in good working condition.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures and use Standard Precautions for all patient encounters.
  • Arrange for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services and track follow-up of diagnostic test results.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances under supervision.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and tests as ordered by the provider.
  • Provide patients with standard care instructions and education.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients and family members.
  • Manage daily patient flow and prioritize care tasks delegated by the care team.
  • Take ownership in office function/process improvement under supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient health information and complete mandatory education.
  • Support the provider during visits by collecting and entering information in patient records.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
