About The Position

The Mohs Medical/Surgical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting licensed medical doctors in both clinic and outpatient surgical settings. This position is responsible for providing compassionate and individualized care to patients, ensuring their safety and comfort during medical procedures. The assistant will perform various tasks including patient advocacy, surgical assistance, and administrative duties, all while maintaining a sterile environment and adhering to safety protocols.

Requirements

  • One (1)+ year experience in a medical setting, required.
  • One (6)+ months experience in a dermatological surgery setting, required.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology - required.
  • Detail-oriented, professional attitude, reliable.
  • Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function.
  • Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations.
  • Interpersonal skills to support patient experience.
  • Basic to intermediate computer operation proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior EMA experience - preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam, surgery, and treatment.
  • Interview surgery patients to obtain medical information.
  • Measure patients' vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, procedure rooms, or operative rooms, and prepare them for the physician.
  • Review a surgical informed consent with the patient prior to their procedure.
  • Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital signs, and test results in an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Set up a sterile surgical tray and inspect sterile items prior to opening.
  • Assist the physician during surgery while maintaining a sterile field.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocols.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
  • Explain surgical/treatment procedures, medications, diets, and wound care instructions to patients.
  • Schedule appointments for patients, including surgery and clinic appointments.
  • Inventory and assess the need for instruments, supplies, and equipment while keeping the room fully stocked.
