About The Position

Golden State Dermatology is a physician-led and owned dermatology group rapidly expanding across California, with over 37 locations. We are a leading medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology group specializing in skin, hair, and nail conditions, Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancer, surgical and non-surgical cosmetic skincare, anti-aging, body contouring, and plastic surgery. The Mohs Technician is responsible for preparing high quality Mohs frozen section histology slides for review by the Mohs surgeon. Travel is required between Beverley Hills, Encino and Torrance.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated skills in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.
  • Demonstrated ability to take and follow direction and to know who the resources are for their direction.
  • Understanding of the equipment used daily, including cryostat and staining equipment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Drive for Results (Service, Quality, and Continuous Improvement) – Ensure procedures and processes are in place that lead to delivery of quality results and continually reassess their effectiveness to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Communication – Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel to regional Mohs surgery offices to perform Mohs technician responsibilities on an as needed basis.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of Mohs histotech experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high quality Microtomy and staining of frozen section tissue according to instructions daily.
  • Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensures correct patient labeling.
  • Cuts, prepares, and stains slides from histology specimens.
  • Routinely checks and verifies that surgical case numbers match blocks, slides, and Mohs map.
  • Prepare high quality slides proficiently and with proper staining technique
  • Prepares, cleans, maintains, and shuts down laboratory equipment & accessories used on a daily and weekly manner
  • Ensure all OSHA and CLIA safety regulations are followed
  • Additional Medical Assisting duties assigned as needed.
