Academic Alliance in Dermatology, an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology, is hiring a Medical Assistant to join our Mohs Surgery team in Tarpon Springs and Trinity, FL. Requirements

  • Medical Assistant experience in a high-volume clinical or surgical setting
  • Comfortable assisting with surgical procedures and working hands-on throughout the day
  • Experience preparing sterile trays, handling instruments, and assisting with closures
  • Strong understanding of infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogen standards
  • Experience administering injections and obtaining vital signs
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and dermatology workflows
  • Proficient with EMR systems and basic computer skills
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with specimen handling and documentation
  • Professional, team-oriented, and patient-focused demeanor
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to educate and reassure patients
  • Ability to travel between Tarpon Springs and Trinity as needed
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant (CMA) program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred
  • CPR certification preferred
  • 1–2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or in a clinical patient care role preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during clinic hours
  • Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, and use of hands and fingers
  • Regular talking and listening in person and by telephone
  • Ability to handle clinical and office materials (supplies, paperwork, instruments)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Exposure to infectious organisms, chemicals, and sharp instruments in a clinical environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Mohs surgery or surgical experience (preferred)
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required
  • Dermatology experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for Mohs surgery, including intake, history review, and surgical site verification
  • Assist the Mohs surgeon throughout all stages of the procedure, including tumor excision and wound closure
  • Prepare, set up, and break down sterile surgical trays and instruments for Mohs procedures
  • Administer local anesthetic injections per provider direction
  • Properly handle, label, map, and transport tissue specimens for Mohs processing according to protocol
  • Assist with surgical closures, bandaging, pressure dressings, and post-operative wound care
  • Educate patients on detailed post-op and wound care instructions and reinforce provider guidance
  • Monitor patients between Mohs stages and communicate updates to providers and lab staff
  • Maintain efficient patient flow throughout a fast-paced surgical clinic day
  • Clean, sterilize, calibrate, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment in compliance with infection control standards
  • Ensure exam rooms and surgical areas are stocked, organized, and procedure-ready at all times
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR, including procedures, medications, and patient education
  • Manage pathology routing and lab coordination specific to Mohs surgery
  • Uphold OSHA, HIPAA, bloodborne pathogen, and infection control standards at all times
  • Assist with additional clinical or surgical duties as assigned by leadership
