About The Position

The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient flow of patients through the health care setting by facilitating examination and treatment of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service. This role contributes to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and assisting physicians, other medical staff, nurses, and support staff. The position is for various part-time and/or PRN Medical Assistant roles throughout Miami County.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • CPR/AED/BLS certification, with other BLS certification required within 14 days.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patients for testing procedures and assist receptionists with physician's patients' schedules.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and assist with patient flow through the lab, nursing, and/or x-ray department.
  • Prepare exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate supplies for designated work areas.
  • Oversee appointment bookings and ensure prioritization based on patient medical situations.
  • Demonstrate skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests, and maintain proper storage of specimens.
  • Deliver test results and ensure lab reports and other information are in patient's records.
  • Maintain current knowledge of managed care plan requirements and assist with referrals.
  • Utilize computer skills to view schedules, assign appointments, and search patient demographics.
  • Provide general nursing care to clinic patients and administer prescribed medications.
  • Perform duties of telephone advice nurse and assess patient health through verbal communication.
  • Document patient conditions, reactions to drugs, and treatment in an orderly manner.
  • Participate fully as a member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team.
