About The Position

This role plays a key part in supporting patient care across all six ECH Primary Care Centers by managing medication prior authorizations. The position is based at Elizabethtown Community Hospital and includes the opportunity to be cross-trained in clinical rooming—for a well-rounded skill set and added professional growth. The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider. The Medical Assistant performs those direct care activities which are allowed to be delegated to unlicensed personnel under the New York State Education law Section 6530 (11), regulations, hospital policies and standards met by Nursing Services. Requirements

  • Must be high school graduate or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
  • Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills to interact with patients, patient’s families, staff and management.
  • Must maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times
  • Must be highly motivated, able to work outside the normal working hours as volume demands.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • As applicable, the individual has training, competency in attending to the special needs and/or behavior appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being given.
  • Must possess the ability to collaborate with other health personnel.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Comprehension of medical terminology
  • Holds certification for Basic Life Support or willing to perform within first month of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant Program preferred
  • 3 months experience in an physician office practice setting preferred
