Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and successful graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program or Emergency Medical Technician program
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Be available to work as scheduled and report to work on time.
  • Be willing to accept supervision and work well with others.
  • Be well groomed, appropriately for your role and wear ID Badge visibly.
  • Be in compliance with all departmental and institutional policies, the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and completes NetLearning by due date annually.

Responsibilities

  • Assists providers with patient exams and procedures specific to cystic fibrosis care, including pulmonary function testing and airway clearance techniques.
  • Performs vital signs, collects specimens, and documents patient information accurately.
  • Coordinates patient appointments, including multidisciplinary visits involving respiratory therapy, nutrition, and social work.
  • Supports patient education on treatment plans, medication adherence, and infection control practices.
  • Maintains clinical equipment and ensures compliance with infection control protocols critical to protecting immunocompromised patients.
  • Facilitate the rooming of patients and gather pertinent health information, including vital signs, medical history, current medications, and immunization status. Accurately document all information in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures, ensuring that necessary supplies are available. Prepare patients for exams and administer immunizations or injections under supervision, as permitted by state regulations.
  • Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens such as blood or urine for analysis, adhering to clinic protocols and safety standards.
  • Provide patients with clear instructions regarding treatment plans, medication management, and follow-up care. Act as a liaison between patients and providers to relay information and coordinate care.
  • Monitor and manage in-basket messaging, including triaging, routing, and responding to messages from patients, providers, and staff to support efficient clinic workflow and communication.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms and medical equipment. Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and restocking of medical supplies as needed.
  • Assist with handling referrals, managing patient records, and performing other clerical duties that contribute to the smooth functioning of the clinic.
  • May utilize point of care instruments, such as the ISTAT, Piccolo, glucometer, etc.
  • May perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), ENO, Spirometry or other diagnostic tests on patients as directed, processes and files patient charts, and monitors procedure activity under supervision.
  • May participate in quality assurance and improvement activities on an ongoing basis and assist with preparation for regulatory surveys
  • Other duties as assigned.
