Job Summary: Provides basic clinical and clerical support in the delivery of patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of education. The Medical Assistant experiences continued training of all aspects of the Medical Assistant role.

Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification OR relative experience as outlined below.
  • In lieu of education requirement, at least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered.
  • Certified BLS to be obtained through employment provided RQI training. To be completed 3 months (90) days of hire or job transfer.
  • All required credentials to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Must be capable and willing to cover administrative front office staff depending on the department’s needs: scheduling appointments, answering telephones, signing in and discharging patients, copying and faxing
  • Knowledge of computer systems: Microsoft Office, IDX, Allscripts a plus.
  • This position is located within a busy outpatient ambulatory care clinic setting. Must be able to multitask, possess outstanding communication and follow up skills

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience or MA externship in a busy medical office.
  • EPIC EMR experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under direction of provider and nurses, including but not limited to: • Vitals • Allergy & medication reconciliation • Screenings
  • Patient history • Health maintenance
  • Advance directives
  • Virtual health
  • Language iTi
  • Provides indirect patient care related to the Medical Assistant scope of education, including but not limited to: • Scheduling • Work queues / Worklists • Check in/check out • Referrals
  • In-basket • Scanning
  • Chart prep
  • Non-clinical patient result callbacks
  • Prior authorizations
  • Transportation facilitation
  • Conducts point of care testing including quality control & documentation including but not limited to: • Hemoglobin A1C • Hemoglobin POCT
  • Performs administrative duties and covers front desk based on business needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
