About The Position

Calvin University is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide medical/administrative support for physicians, nurse practitioners and a physician assistant in delivering medical care to patients. This position offers medical, vision and dental benefits. Schedule: Five (5) days per week during the academic year (September-April) when the office is open and 1-3 days per week during the summer. The office is closed for all holidays, with two weeks off every Christmas break and one week off during Calvin's spring break. We are also closed Mondays and Fridays during the summer months.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a current active Medical Assistant (MA) Certificate in Michigan.
  • Experience using an electronic health record system is required.
  • Good organizational skills are needed.
  • Must be committed to compassionate care and confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills and electronic record experience are both necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Receive patients, obtain information and enter into the electronic record regarding chief complaint, vital signs and reconciling medication list.
  • Prepare patient and exam room for assessment or minor procedures and assist with the discharge of the patient by assisting the provider with dispensing of medications or planning follow-up care appointments.
  • Perform clinical support functions such as: vision screening, giving injections (including vaccines), ear irrigations, peak flow testing, suture removal, phlebotomy, pulse oximetry, spirometry, electrocardiogram, obtaining in-house laboratory tests, and fit for crutches.
  • Maintain clinical areas, including maintaining equipment and performing infection control procedures.
  • Assisting with patient phone calls using the protocol manual with oversight by the provider.
  • Assisting with scheduling referrals, entering medical information into EHR, processing lab, x-ray and other medical reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and involves communicating sensitive information and handling confidential information.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Perform CLIA-waived tests as directed by clinical staff and document results.
  • Draw blood specimens to be sent to the hospital lab.
  • Perform administrative front desk functions as directed by clinical lead.
