About The Position

The Orthopedic Technician will provide support through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. Maintains all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
  • Meet One of the following criteria: Has attended an approved medical assistant training program, approved by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or; Attended an unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant and has one of the following certifications: If needed, we will assist you in obtaining a CCMA certification. National Healthcareer Association: CCMA American Medical Technologist: RMA American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA National Center for Competency Testing: NCMA American Medical Certification Association: CMAC or; Was directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000. (Letter from physician, physician group, or physician assistant must be on file) or; Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States and a copy of that certificate is on file or; Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000.
  • Current and Valid Registered Orthopedic Technologist Certification (due within 1 (one) year of hire)
  • Medical Assist, must meet one of the following criteria: ☐ Has attended an approved medical assistant training program, a copy of the diploma or transcripts are on file, by one of the following: a. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; or b. The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools ☐ An unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute and a copy of that certification is on file. ☐ Was directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000. (Letter from physician, physician group, or physician assistant must be on file) ☐ Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States and a copy of that certificate is on file. ☐ Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000.

  • Incumbent must be capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Capable of walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing
  • Capable of sitting at desk 10% of the time per day; communicating using telephone

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years; experience as a medical assistant or LPN in a clinical outpatient setting

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care
  • Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
  • Schedules/confirms appointments
  • Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
  • Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider
  • Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations
  • Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens
  • Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests
  • May perform venipuncture
  • Participates in division meetings
  • Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider. Maintain work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations. Participate in clinical division meetings.
  • Applies, adjusts and removes casts, splints, immobilization devices and traction
  • Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices
