About The Position

The position is for a Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Advocate Health, specifically in the Family Medicine department. Requirements

  • LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • MA: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the AHA.
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • LPN: Completion of an accredited program in Practical Nursing.
  • MA: Completion of an accredited program in Medical Assistant or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding and navigation within a windows operating system.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and results tracking.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
