About The Position

The position is for a Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Advocate Health, specifically in the Family Medicine department. The role is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week, with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The pay range for this position is between $21.45 and $35.50, with actual compensation based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training. The MA will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on their area of specialty when providing patient care. Responsibilities include performing rooming tasks, assisting providers, conducting lab-related duties, administering medications and vaccines, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Requirements

  • LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • MA: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • GED or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  • LPN: Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
  • MA: Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding and navigation within a windows operating system.
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, preparation of lab orders, and results tracking.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling.
  • Cross-trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and ensures equipment and supplies are in working order.
