When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us. The Specialty Clinic (BS 5) is located at 79 Retreat Ave. on the fifth and second floor of the Brownstone Building of Hartford Hospital. The clinic has over 4,500 patient visits annually. There are over 10 different specialty clinics held on various days of the week. Clinics include services from Breast, Cardiology, Ear Nose and Throat, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Movement Disorder, Neurology/Epilepsy, Ophthalmology, Pulmonary, Trauma and Urology/Cystoscopies. Staffing includes Attending's, PA's, Fellows, Residents, RN's, MA's, MAA's, Central Scheduling and an Office Coordinator. Brownstone staff guides patients through the health system, including appropriate referrals for services to other health professionals.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification OR relative experience.
  • At least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
  • Relevant experience or MA externship in a busy medical office.
  • EPIC EMR preferred.
  • Certified BLS to be obtained through employment provided RQI training within 90 days of hire or job transfer.
  • Knowledge of computer systems: Microsoft Office, IDX, Allscripts a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated functions as a member of the patient care team to provide a variety of multi-skilled services.
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs.
  • Assist the physician or Nurse Practitioner in performing gynecologic examinations and minor surgical procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy and obtain pre-certification and pre-authorizations for surgeries and specialized testing.
  • Cover the front administrative office when needed, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, signing in and discharging patients, copying and faxing as necessary.
