About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the 9ST Weekend Program at Aurora St Lukes Medical Center involves providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. The unit specializes in adult moderate acuity cardiovascular surgical care, working closely with the CVICU to provide care to patients needing specialty services before and after heart surgeries, heart transplants, and ventricular assist devices (VAD). The role includes a two-phase orientation focusing on cardiac surgical patients and the more complex needs of heart transplant and VAD patients. The position is full-time, requiring 36 hours per week, with a commitment to quality patient care and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care using the nursing process.
  • Assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans.
  • Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patient conditions and take appropriate actions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate patient-centered care.
  • Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
  • Coordinate discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Participate in quality/process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promote a culture of safety and report patient safety events.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
