About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advocate Health is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that includes Monday through Friday hours ranging from 7:45 AM to 5:00 PM. The role involves performing various clinical tasks, including phlebotomy, patient care, and administrative duties. The Medical Assistant will adhere to the scope of practice, follow policies and procedures, and maintain competency in their specialty area. Responsibilities include rooming patients, assisting providers, performing lab-related duties, administering medications and vaccines, and ensuring a clean and well-stocked work environment. The position requires effective communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to provide age-appropriate care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification must be obtained within 45 days for certain divisions.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills including navigation within a windows operating system and electronic medical records systems.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, and preparation of lab orders.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
