About The Position

The position is for a Medical Assistant (MA) within the Advocate Health system, specifically in the Nurses and MAs Float Pool. This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. The role involves travel to various clinics including Good Hope, Mayfair, Menomonee Falls, Northwest, Sinai, and East Mequon. The pay range for this position is between $21.45 and $32.20 per hour. The MA will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on their area of specialty when providing patient care. Responsibilities include performing rooming tasks, assisting providers, conducting lab-related duties, administering medications and vaccines, and maintaining a clean work environment. The MA must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and communicate effectively with patients and team members.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing for LPN.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.

  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
  • Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Cross trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within the scope of the Medical Assistant.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
