About The Position

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Equivalent
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
  • DPS Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: Has attended an approved medical assistant training program, or has completed an unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute
  • Was directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000
  • Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, to maintain attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric
  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years’ experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner
  • Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures
  • Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital stats, history and reason for seeking care
  • Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due
  • Schedules/confirms appointments
  • Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff
  • Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider
  • Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations
  • Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens
  • Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests
  • May perform venipuncture
  • Participates in clinical division meetings
