About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Ochsner Health involves providing individualized medical care to assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. Requirements

  • High school diploma required; completion of a formal medical assistant training program preferred.
  • Experience working with and maintaining confidential information in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Clinical knowledge and proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized medical care to assigned patients in person, electronically, and via telephone under supervision.
  • Assist in the delivery of healthcare services to patients of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients and their families.
  • Ensure efficient flow of patients throughout their visit and provide support to the attending physician.
  • Communicate with patients via phone to meet their needs timely and accurately.
  • Document pertinent medical information in the company's data systems.
  • Prepare the patient and provider for visits and ensure all questions are answered before the patient leaves.
  • Complete appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
  • Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials through personal professional development.
  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and communication styles.
