About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting patients in collaboration with the provider and other members of the health care team with all clinical services available at the clinic. Clinical responsibilities of the Medical Assistant include patient intake, documenting medical history, vital signs, preparing and administering injections and vaccinations, EKG's, performing CLIA waived lab testing, and performing additional medical services that fall within the scope of practice of the MA. Job duties include but are not limited to: obtaining, verifying, and recording health history of patients; gathering pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples; collecting specimens utilizing proper technique for laboratory analysis; performing point of care testing for all testing done in clinic; providing patient care as directed by physician or advanced practice clinician; documenting assessments, interventions, patient/family interactions/responses, medications dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical record; assisting other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and minor surgical procedures in the clinic setting; ensuring all patient information is in accurate locations of the patient chart for quality reporting and data extraction purposes; coordinating and managing care of patients seen by provider; staying informed of insurance requirements and guidelines for patient care; performing prior authorizations and acting as patient advocate; regularly monitoring patients to promote wellness and health maintenance; participating in the development of the plan of care with other team members; promoting wellness by providing patient education materials; and scheduling, coordinating, and communicating referrals to specialists and services ordered by the provider.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Clinical Medical Assistant Program.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years experience working in a clinic setting.
  • CMA certification.
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating provider advice/instructions.
  • Schedules, coordinates and communicates referrals to specialists and services ordered by the provider.
