About The Position

The Lead Medical Assistant (MA) – Multi-Specialty position presents an exciting opportunity for Medical Assistants to expand their knowledge and skill set in a Multi-Specialty Clinic environment. Under direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing personnel, the Medical Assistant takes a central role in the delivery of health care for patients performing a variety of patient care duties in a Multi-Specialty clinic. The Lead MA plays a pivotal role in promoting efficient operations, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture of excellence within the medical assistant team, contributing to the overall success of the practice. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military healthcare experience Required
  • Medical Assistant Diploma Required
  • Medical Assistant Certification Required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant externship Required
  • 3 years Medical Assistant experience, preferably in an ambulatory clinic setting with Specialty Services Required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and help coordinate the daily activities of the medical assistant team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure adherence to protocols and the upholding of professional/high standards of patient care while communicating findings to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager.
  • Support the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager with monitoring, guiding patient flow, and assigning patient care related tasks to ensure that patients are roomed and discharged timely.
  • Facilitate communication, resolve issues, and ensure smooth operations within the clinical setting as the primary point of contact for the medical assistant team, while keeping providers and Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager in communication.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager with managing inventory, supplies, and equipment necessary for the operation of the clinical setting and will report low inventory to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager.
  • Oversee procurement and storage of supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager with the weekly auditing process for CLIA compliance, and sterile instrument processing.
  • Serve as the primary in-clinic trainer and mentor for new employees and MA externs, ensuring completion of new employee and student checklists are completed in a timely manner.
  • May provide input in the review and evaluation of staff performance.
  • Foster a collaborative and communicative environment within the medical assistant team, promoting effective teamwork, mutual support, and open dialogue, serving as a technical or functional resource for the MA team
  • Serving as the primary reference for the team, the Lead Medical Assistant will possess advanced knowledge and proficiency in utilizing electronic health record system Epic, serving as a Super User.
  • They will troubleshoot technical issues, provide guidance on system navigation, and reinforce previous training to ensure that all team members can effectively utilize electronic health records and physical forms (such as but not limited to DMEs, and pre-operative forms).
  • Monitor and report compliance with workflows, hand hygiene compliance, policies and/or procedures as directed by the Assistant Nurse Manager or Nurse Manager.
  • In collaboration with the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, assist with maintaining quality assurance measures within the clinic (such as chart audits, ensuring correct documentation of processes and PVP presentation, rooming & wrap up).
  • This may include conducting audits, monitoring patient outcomes, and implementing improvements to enhance the delivery of patient care under the direction and as assigned by the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager.
  • Under the direction and leadership of a champion, will collaborate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects aimed at improving clinical processes, patient care outcomes, or workflow efficiency.
  • Lead MA will actively participate in project meetings as needed, contribute insights from the medical assistant team, and assist in project coordination and execution
  • Collaborate with the patient’s care team including, primary care team, specialists, home care, hospital team, and any others involved with the patient’s care to optimize clinical outcomes.
  • Work as a team member, interacting with staff, patients, and providers to communicate and coordinate patient care and workflow effectively.
  • Improve the patient experience by completing pre-visit planning including reviewing notes from the previous visit and ensuring that results are documented (e.g., pre-visit lab results, diagnostic tests, pathology reports, other physician notes from a referral).
  • Identifying whether any further information such as hospital discharge notes, emergency notes, etc. are available to maximize the patient and Provider face-to-face visit.
  • Enhance the patient experience by practicing AIDET during each patient interaction.
  • Room patients consistent with standardized workflow including verifying patient information, utilizing twopatient identifiers, documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, BMI, pulse oximetry level as necessary, patient comfort level, medication list, allergies, smoking history, and other information as required.
  • As required and competency validated, perform appropriate EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, staple and suture removal, wound care, toenail cutting, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures.
  • Perform clinical duties as assigned and competency validated in accordance with Standing Delegation Orders including, but not limited to: administering medications, immunizations, setting up exam or procedure rooms, preparing patients for examinations and /or treatments, assisting provider with exams or procedures, cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage, stocking exam rooms, perform quality control checks on equipment as per manufacturer guidelines.
