About Altais: The Lead Medical Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring efficient operations and high-quality patient care within the medical practice. Working closely with the Practice Operations Supervisor, Office Manager, and clinical team, this fast-paced position requires a blend of administrative, clinical, and leadership responsibilities. The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for patient care tasks such as taking vitals, rooming patients, cleaning rooms, assisting with procedures, and ensuring compliance with medical guidelines and policies. Additionally, this role oversees back-office operations, coordinates medical supplies and equipment maintenance, and provides training and guidance to the Medical Assistant team. Serving as a point person for clinical staff and providers, the Lead Medical Assistant models excellence in patient relations, prioritizes workload independently, and demonstrates advanced nursing skills tailored to an ambulatory care setting. Effective communication with patients of all ages and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders are essential, as is the ability to work in a paperless environment. Bilingual skills are preferred to support diverse patient needs.Essential Functions:Clinical Leadership and Staff SupportManage daily tasks in the absence of the site supervisor.Coordinate daily clinical staffing needs.Provide clinical guidance and support to the Medical Assistant team.Assist with the hiring of nursing staff, conduct nursing reviews, and perform counseling sessions.Assist with goals and objectives for nursing staff and help implement policies and procedures.Serve as a resource to practice staff and EPIC.Direct unresolved needs and concerns to the Clinic Administrator.Review and approve staff e-time reports.Patient Care and SupportGreet patients and drive a positive customer service experience.Room patients, obtain and document vital signs (e.g., height, weight, BMI, temperature, respirations, and blood pressure).Collect and document patient history and current state of health.Provide patient education, follow-up care instructions, and plan/schedule diagnostic tests.Administer medications and injectable immunizations per physician order.Perform various medical procedures, including EKGs, finger sticks, ear lavages, nebulizer treatments, urine dipsticks, specimen collection, wound cleaning, PPD placement, glucose checks, and routine screenings (e.g., hearing and vision tests).Administrative and Operational SupportIndependently resolve practice operation challenges without direction.Scan medical documents, test results, forms, and insurance information; file and process related tasks.Maintain medication records and process medication orders as requested.Support correspondence, including calls, mail, faxes, emails, and patient portal requests.Ensure that all logs, forms, records, and charts are complete, thorough, and accurate.Equipment and Supplies ManagementMaintain knowledge of equipment location, operation, availability, and care.Prepare and maintain clinical supplies and equipment, including routine sterilization and calibration.Verify freezer and refrigerator temperatures and take corrective measures as needed.Monitor and manage office and medical supply inventory/order lists.Troubleshoot, problem-solve, and ensure proper care and handling of equipment.Compliance and SafetyPractice standard safety precautions, including handling contained waste and sharps.Disinfect and prepare treatment rooms, equipment, and supplies to ensure optimum flow.Ensure compliance with proper use of PPE and safety protocols.Communicate clearly with providers, staff, and patients to promote proper clinic flow and patient hand-off.Professional Development and Team CollaborationAttend meetings, in-services, and training sessions as requested by the Clinic Administrator.Display a professional attitude through performance, appearance, and demeanor.Hold in confidence all personal and professional matters related to patients, relatives, and the health care team.Proactively assist teammates during downtime and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
