About The Position

The Medical Assistant- Laboratory will be responsible for providing basic laboratory screening, maintaining laboratory records, collecting and submitting laboratory specimens. Schedule: Flexible, may require some evening and weekends

Requirements

  • Must be able to travel from facility to facility
  • This position requires 10 % travel outside the local area.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate or Certified Medical Assistant.
  • High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • Three months of phlebotomy experience-pediatric and geriatric capillary and venipuncture preferred.
  • Commitment to goals and philosophy of Northeast Community Clinic
  • Current CPR and/or BLS Certification
  • Valid State Identification
  • OSHA Category 1 – Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • The work is majority of the time non-sedentary in nature.
  • The employee is regularly required to communicate, frequently required to use repetitive motions, move, remain stationary, regularly push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office/clinic setting (in some cases both settings) and to use standard office/clinic equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, read printed materials and use a computer, and communicate in person and over the telephone.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and related duties.
  • Collect blood specimens by venous and capillary puncture.
  • Draw blood ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and protocols.
  • Label specimens accordingly, centrifuge, prepare specimens as required by test order, and package specimens for transport.
  • Maintain records in an accurate and complete manner.
  • Strict adherence to the policy and procedure manual.
  • Keeps lab area neat and clean. Disposes of biohazard containers when scheduled.
  • All other duties as assigned.
