About The Position

This position involves performing selected clinical duties that assist in the delivery of patient care management, as delegated by the Office Manager, practice physician(s), nurse practitioner(s), physician assistant(s), or nurse(s). The role is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care by controlling patient flow, obtaining and documenting necessary history and vital signs, performing assigned procedures, and providing patient education. This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position supporting the Internal Medicine division at our East Greenwich office.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or a minimum of one-year experience in a medical setting.
  • National certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and/or treatment procedures as dictated by specialty area.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately.
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with patients, physicians, supervisors, and peers.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one-year experience working in a medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently applies the Brown Medicine values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity and quality.

  • Practices the Brown Medicine Customer Service Standards.
  • Rooms patients and records vitals, weight, medications, PMH, Surgical History, Family History, Drug allergy, and social history.
  • Maintains a smooth patient flow.
  • Manages patient calls for non-urgent issues such as appointment reminders and scheduling.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients’ vitals and reactions to treatments.
  • Assesses patient needs and suggests solutions to patient care problems.
  • Maintains accurate patient records.
  • Ensures patients stay for required observation time after injections.
  • Reacts appropriately in patient reaction situations and informs physician or clinical staff as necessary.
  • Follows OSHA regulations.
  • Maintains patient, employee, and clinic confidentiality.
  • Obtains medical records and procedure/lab test results.
  • Ensures cleanliness of the room.
