About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures. The MA prepares the examination room, escorts patients, cleans the examination room post-exam, and maintains efficient patient flow. They ensure proper preparation for patient visits, communicate care consistent with the patient's needs, and manage appointment scheduling. The MA also documents vital signs, medication lists, and allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and adheres to safety precautions when administering medications.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED / Equivalent Work or Vocational / Technical School / Diploma required.
  • Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within 30 days of hire required.
  • 0-1 year related work experience required.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner required.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use required.
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the examination room and escorts patients into the room.
  • Cleans examination room when the exam is complete.
  • Maintains efficient patient flow.
  • Ensures proper preparation for patient visits.
  • Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visits.
  • Communicates and provides care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient.
  • Answers the telephone appropriately and directs calls or takes messages.
  • Schedules appointments accurately according to departmental guidelines.
  • Stocks examination rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Orders and maintains supplies as assigned.
  • Reconciles encounters daily according to policy guidelines.
  • Communicates problems or concerns to the Supervisor and/or Manager.
  • Obtains vital signs and documents appropriately in EHR.
  • Reviews and updates medication list and documents allergies in EHR.
  • Enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Provides referrals and/or consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications.
  • Maintains proficiency with department specific equipment.
  • Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
