About The Position

The Medical Assistant III perform duties such as tray set-ups for patient treatment, vital signs, assist doctor with patient treatments/procedure, break down exam rooms and re-set for next patients, clean and sterilize, help with maintenance of medical equipment, and assist with explanation of treatment option and treatment coordinating with patient. The Medical Assistant III will also help with training of new hires, keep track of daily schedule and help direct patient traffic to help prevent the medical team from falling behind, track lab cases, copy and keep records of invoices, restock operatory rooms, patient chart up-keep, and help with patient referrals. Work closely with the Manager, Nurses, and Providers to ensure the office is running smoothly. May perform other related work to include, but not limited to scheduling appointments, answering phones, pull and file charts, training new staff, inventory control, assisting with ordering supplies, help with dental referrals, and help with medical billing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma OR equivalent
  • Certificate of completion for an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Three years of experience as a medical assistant
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a profession manner
  • Ability to cooperative and collaborate with a team of medical professional to provide non-discriminatory care to underserved patient populations
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, Power point, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn and use Electronic Health Record Systems (e.g., IMS, EPIC and Dentrix).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform a variety of tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and function with a high level of independence and problem solve.
  • Ability to maintain a good attendance and report to work on time
  • Ability to effectively communicate (oral and written)
  • Ability to provide good customer/patient services
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for 7-8 hours per day
  • Ability to adhere to the health center’s policies and procedures include but not limited to safety, employment and medical care services.

Responsibilities

  • Document Chief Complaint, Patient medical history, social history, family history, current medications, and other pertinent information
  • Take and document patient vital signs: Blood pressure, temperature, etc.
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for medical test and examinations
  • Create a positive and comfortable atmosphere for patients
  • Assist Providers during examination, treatment and procedures as requested
  • Perform minor procedures direct supervision of a provider
  • Collect specimens and label as required
  • Perform lab tests such as UA/UPT, EKG, HGB, etc. as requested and allowable
  • Administer topical, oral, intramuscular medications/vaccines as ordered and qualified
  • Stock exam rooms daily
  • Stock and monitor medical supplies, medications, and vaccines
  • Inform manager of all shortages of supplies or any malfunctioning equipment
  • Clean and sanitize all rooms such as exam, treatment, vital, and waiting rooms.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments in accordance to policies and procedures
  • Accurately document vaccine and medical supply usage
  • Record Vaccine refrigerator/s and freezer/s temperature twice daily
  • Import Labs into patient files
  • Assist with communication between provider, patient, HALO personnel and third party providers
  • Complete lab slips and other required forms when necessary
  • Traveling to other medical clinics to provide coverage
  • Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, other governing authority regulations, and Internal Policies and Procedures
  • Assure all work/laboratory/exam areas are compliant in all standards such as OSHA, Medical Board, HALO Policies and Procedures
  • Monitor validity of forms, responses and communications and make corrections when necessary
  • Perform all duties of Sterilizer when deemed necessary
  • Train staff as requested by Manager
  • Monitor daily patient schedules and alert medical team of any changes
  • Train new staffs as requested by Manager
  • Assist in creating a productive and collaborative environment
  • Run reports as requested by Management
  • Maintain invoices for record keeping and finance department
  • Verify shipments received and sign off on invoices
  • Order medical supplies as approved by Manager
  • Monitor and maintain 340b Medications
  • Monitor and maintain all medications, DME, oxygen tanks, etc. (expiration, lot #, etc.)
  • Look over all schedules and assist manager in making any adjustments to maintain maximum efficiency
  • Train, Lead and Motivate Medical Assistants
  • Report any non-compliance to Manager
  • Prepare and participate in audits such as HEDIS, DHCS, Internal, etc.
  • EZIZ and Bio-hazard training
  • Act as VFC coordinator
  • Participate in QA/QI committees
  • Monitor/Maintain Front and Back Office performance
  • From time to time, supervise all staff when Officer Manager is out as assigned
  • At all times you will perform and undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are requested of you by Office Manager and/or Provider
