About The Position

The Medical Assistant III (MA III) reports to the Clinical Manager and provides both direct and indirect support to medical providers to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of patient care. This role includes advanced clinical, operational, and leadership responsibilities, serving as a resource, mentor, and subject matter expert to Medical Assistant staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES.
  • Minimum 4 - 5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures, patient care standards, and medical terminology.
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current HarborCHC MA II in good standing (for internal candidates), with satisfactory performance and no active corrective action within the past 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA preferred).
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks.
  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or outpatient primary care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness, proper stocking, and readiness between patients.
  • Room patients, verify and document patient information, medical history, and vital signs.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Perform clinical procedures including, but not limited to: venipuncture, finger/heel sticks, EKGs, audiometry, spirometry, urine testing, hemoglobin testing, and glucose testing.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and injections as ordered by the provider.
  • Prepare, process, and document laboratory specimens in accordance with protocols.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Perform age-appropriate screenings and support preventive care initiatives.
  • Maintain and operate clinical equipment, including troubleshooting and coordinating repairs.
  • Review provider schedules, prepare charts, and identify gaps in care.
  • Support patient flow and coordinate care to minimize wait times.
  • Answer patient calls, route messages, and support communication through the EMR system.
  • Assist patients with forms, referrals, lab orders, and appointment scheduling.
  • Provide patients with clinical summaries, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
  • Serve as an eClinicalWorks Super User and provide support to staff.
  • Act as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) champion and role model patient-centered care.
  • Lead MA team huddles and support daily workflow coordination.
  • Assist Clinical Manager with audits, including chart reviews and compliance preparation.
  • Train, mentor, and support onboarding of new and existing MA staff.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to improve clinical workflows and patient care processes.
  • Support inventory management of medications, supplies, and vaccines.
  • Assist in managing walk-in patients and clinic flow as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control, OSHA, and Universal Precautions standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, or compliance issues to leadership.
  • Complete required trainings and attend mandatory meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support HarborCHC’s mission and operations.
