About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Assistant III to join our healthcare team in a hybrid role focused on Geriatric Primary Care and the Geriatric Assessment Clinic. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the assessment and management of geriatric syndromes, including frailty, cognitive decline, polypharmacy, and falls. You will provide essential support for elderly patients and their families through both in-clinic and remote care settings. This includes managing a high volume of patient calls, assisting nursing staff and providers in responding to MyChart messages, and addressing clinical inquiries. You will coordinate care, offer patient education on chronic disease management and prevention, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes while supporting the well-being of our geriatric population.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with three years of related work experience.
  • Medical Assistant credentials must be obtained from in-person proctored exams from certifying bodies such as NHA, AAMA, or AMT.
  • Ability to show proof of a Medical Assistant certification/registration within six months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

  • Float between divisions and clinical sites and assist patients in all areas within the department.
  • Interact directly with patients in the clinic setting and complete tasks which may include obtaining vital signs, completion of EKGs, phlebotomy, in office procedures, and verification of medications.
  • Prepare for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and lab tests.
  • Assist with renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications per standing orders and department guidelines.
  • Administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioners.
  • Assist with monitoring and tracking pharmaceutical samples.
  • Professionally represent the department through excellent customer service and clinical knowledge.
  • Direct patient flow, assist with special procedures/treatments, and complete requisitions.
  • Route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate divisional personnel.
  • Assist with care coordination by calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, and monitoring new and return patient contacts.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Answer questions from patient/family regarding treatments, diagnosis, and procedures.
  • Assist with ordering supplies for the clinic and monitor supply inventory.
  • Clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments.
  • Submit tickets to property management when appropriate to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Maintain required HIPAA compliance and participate in continuing education and cross-training programs.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
