Medical Assistants are unlicensed individuals who perform under the direction of a licensed provider basic administrative, clerical, and non-invasive routine technical supportive services. Non-invasive technical supportive services are defined as simple, routine medical tasks and procedures. Recognizes and reports changes in a patients’ condition. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. The duties may vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location, and type. Applies good interpersonal and communication process utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve organizational service goals of customer satisfaction and a positive work environment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in primary care clinical assisting.
  • Experience performing lab tests and processing lab and diagnostic study orders.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.

Nice To Haves

  • Training in specialty-specific assisting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for patient visits by reviewing and updating EHRs, ensuring required services, referrals, and documentation are current.
  • Rooms patients by collecting vital signs, medical history, medications, and chief complaints; identifies and reports abnormal findings.
  • Assists providers during exams and procedures while adhering to universal precautions, sterile techniques, and safety protocols.
  • Performs clinical tasks including injections, phlebotomy, specimen collection, basic nursing care, and assistance with ADLs.
  • Coordinates care by scheduling procedures, pre-certifying services, supporting telehealth visits, and facilitating provider-patient communication.
  • Maintains exam rooms, manages inventory, sterilizes equipment, ensures compliance with OSHA/CLIA/HIPAA standards, and provides patient education.
