About The Position

Join a busy clinic with a close‑knit MA team of 4. This role focuses on direct patient care, clinical support, and efficient clinic flow. Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and assigned physician, the Medical Assistant II performs duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction to provide patient care given in accordance with the organization standards. This includes assuring completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, ensuring smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, instructing patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs, and ensuring medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner. The role also involves performing registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures, maintaining EMR files, and performing general front office functions as needed. The Medical Assistant II may perform computerized physician order entry if directed by the assigned physician and is expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program
  • Current certification in medical assisting from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and take vitals
  • Perform blood draws and point‑of‑care (POC) testing
  • Support daily Medical Assistant clinical duties
  • Assist providers with exams and treatments
  • Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assure smooth patient flow
  • Perform general lab work
  • Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintain EMR files
  • Perform general front office functions as needed
  • Perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
