About The Position

The Medical Assistant II performs duties related to direct patient care and clinical direction under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, ensuring patient care aligns with organizational standards. Key responsibilities include ensuring the completeness of procedures and treatments, maintaining smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, and instructing patients on procedures and needs. The role also involves ensuring medical orders and referrals are executed accurately and promptly. Additionally, the Medical Assistant II handles patient registration and scheduling, maintains EMR files, and performs general front office tasks. They may also perform computerized physician order entry when directed by a physician and are expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification in medical assisting from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists.
  • Basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire.
