IU Health is launching a Community Medicine (Virtualist) program to expand access to specialty care across Indiana. This role is for a Medical Assistant with strong technology skills to support virtual care providers. It is a non-traditional, technology-enabled position crucial for shaping and scaling virtual care delivery. The role is 100% virtual, involving direct support of virtual providers during patient visits, hands-on involvement in building and refining virtual workflows, and influencing statewide care delivery. It is ideal for MAs who enjoy technology, innovation, and change. The Medical Assistant will perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, ensuring care aligns with organizational standards. This includes assuring completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, maintaining smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, instructing patients on procedures and treatments, and ensuring timely and accurate execution of medical orders and referrals. The position also involves registration and scheduling activities, maintaining EMR files, and general front office functions. Computerized physician order entry may be performed if directed by the assigned physician. The MA is also expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership. While not all traditional MA duties will be performed daily, a solid understanding of the MA scope of practice is required, and the role is expected to evolve with the program's growth.
