The Medical Assistant II position within Baylor College of Medicine's Occupational Health Program is responsible for providing health services to employees and students. This role requires understanding various work environments on campus to deliver appropriate health services effectively. The Medical Assistant will work as part of a clinic team to ensure prompt and quality care for patients, primarily in an outpatient setting.

  • Places and reads PPD tests; reports positive PPD readings.
  • Reviews and validates vaccine records.
  • Administers vaccines.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of employee records and accident reports.
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and POCTs.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and e-mails.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation, and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
  • Occupational health experience.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office, other basic computer software).
  • Experience administering vaccinations and TB tests.
  • Comfortable using email and phone.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within a work setting.
