About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center - Hematology/Oncology Clinic is a full-time role requiring adherence to the Medical Assistant scope of practice. The position involves performing various patient care tasks, including rooming patients, taking vital signs, conducting medication reconciliations, and assisting providers with procedures. The Medical Assistant will also handle lab-related duties such as venipuncture and specimen collection, as well as administering medications and vaccines. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care and may assist in training new team members.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Must have a CMA or RMA certification from a recognized national organization.
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding and navigation within a windows operating system.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and results tracking.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and ensures instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
  • May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
